/ Company

A studio built the way software should be built.

North Foundry is an independent software studio. We exist because too many companies have been burned by the standard agency playbook: an impressive pitch, a junior delivery team, endless change requests, and a codebase nobody wants to inherit.

We run the opposite model. A small senior team, direct communication, outcome-based scoping, and architecture your future engineers will thank you for. We operate remotely and work with companies worldwide.

In practice that means the person who takes your discovery call is the person who writes your code. There is no handoff, no account manager relaying decisions, and no junior team quietly assigned once the contract is signed. When you ask why something was built a certain way, you get the answer from whoever built it.

We price against an outcome rather than an hourly estimate, because hours reward slowness and outcomes do not. Scope changes get priced when they come up, in writing, instead of being absorbed quietly and appearing as a surprise on the final invoice. If we think you are about to spend money on the wrong thing, we say so on the call, before you have spent it.

01

Senior only

Every line of client code is written by a senior engineer. No bait-and-switch, no junior handoffs, no outsourced layers you never agreed to.

02

Direct by default

You talk to the people building your product. Decisions happen in one conversation, not across three meetings and a project manager.

03

Boring where it counts

We spend novelty on your product, never your infrastructure. Proven architecture underneath, ambitious outcomes on top.

04

Working software weekly

Every Friday you see something running. Progress you can click is the only progress report we believe in.

/ How we work

Six phases. You always know which one you are in.

Most projects do not fail on the code. They fail because nobody agreed what done meant, and nobody said so until it was expensive. This is the sequence every engagement runs through, and what you physically receive at the end of each one.

01

Discovery

Week 1

We work out what has to be true for this project to be worth doing. Not a feature list, a number that has to move. We map the constraints, the existing systems, and the parts of the problem that are riskiest to get wrong.

What you get

A written outcome statement, a scope, a timeline, and a fixed price. You can take that document to another studio if you want to. It is yours either way.

02

Architecture

Week 1 to 2

We decide the shape of the thing before we build it: data model, boundaries, what is bought versus built, and which decisions we are deliberately leaving reversible. Novelty gets spent on your product, never on your infrastructure.

What you get

A short technical plan in plain language, plus an honest account of what we are betting on and what would have to change if that bet is wrong.

03

Build

Weeks 2 to 8

A senior engineer writes production code daily, in your repository, on a branch you can read. Scope changes are priced as they come up rather than absorbed silently and billed as a surprise at the end.

What you get

A working demo every Friday, deployed to a URL you can click. Progress you can use is the only progress report we believe in.

04

Hardening

Final 1 to 2 weeks

Error handling, edge cases, load behaviour, accessibility, and the observability layer. This is the part most agencies quietly skip, and it is the part that decides whether launch week is calm or not.

What you get

Logging, alerting and a runbook configured before launch rather than after your first incident.

05

Handover

Launch

Full source access, documented decisions, and a walkthrough with whoever will own it next. If that is a team you have not hired yet, we write for the engineer who arrives in six months and has never met us.

What you get

Complete ownership of everything we built, transferred on final payment. That is in every statement of work, never left ambiguous.

06

After

Ongoing

We stay close once real users arrive, because that is when you learn what the product actually needed. Fixes, iteration, and extensions as the thing meets reality.

What you get

A team that already knows the codebase, at an agreed rate, with no retainer you were pressured into at signing.

/ Fit

We are not right for everyone, and we will say so early.

A bad-fit engagement costs you a quarter and costs us a reputation. It is cheaper for both of us to find out on the call than in month three.

Work with us if

  • You have a real business problem and a budget, not just an idea you want validated for free
  • You want to talk directly to the engineer building it, not to an account manager
  • You would rather hear an uncomfortable estimate than a comfortable one
  • You are shipping something that has to keep working after launch
  • You have an existing codebase that needs extending, fixing, or rescuing

Probably not a fit if

  • You need twenty engineers next month. We are deliberately small
  • You want the cheapest possible quote. We will not be it, and we will tell you so on the call
  • The scope genuinely cannot be defined yet. Come back when it can, or hire us for discovery only
  • You want a team that says yes to everything. We push back when we think you are wrong

Software should get more valuable the longer it runs — not more fragile.
